Mr. Ben Kenny, sounds like you are not a Whiskey drinker (american) that is. Jack Daniels, Jim Beam and Old Whiskey Rver are the goood old boy favorite drink. You on the other hand are maybe too sophisticated for these fine pieces of american tradition.....it's ok if you are; you just don't put down american tradition like that man. Just remember, Willie, Waylon, Cash, K. Kristofferson, David Alan Coe....and others.

I-just-arrived-home-with-a-bottle-of-Old-Whiskey-River-and-thought-it-would-be-interesting-to-see-what-other-people's-thoughts-were-on-this-whiskey.So-it's-great-to-find-your-website!

My-initial-impression-was-that-it's-very-smooth-just-straight-out-of-the-bottle-drinking-it-neat.Of-course-depending-on-the-bourbon,I-generally-like-my-bourbon-with-coke.Just-a-splash.

I-didn't-experience-any-bitter-aftertaste,and-to-the-person-that-compared-this-or-actually-said-it-was-worse-than-Jim-Beam-I-couldn't-disagree-more!!

Jim-Beam-are-making-some-fantastic-Bourbons-now-like-Booker's-Knob-Creek-Basil-Hayden...that-said-IMHO-regular-Jim-Beam-is-truly-an-inferior-product.I'd-go-so-far-to-say-that-it's-no-better-than-10-High,or-Ancient-Age.Total-hang-over-material.I-assume-it's-because-of-a-high-ratio-of-Tails-to-Hearts.Their-Rye-is-a-little-better.But-I'm-always-giving-it-another-try-because-it-seems-to-hold-so-much-promise(I'm-a-sucker-for-the-text-on-the-bottles)-and-it's-always-at-a-great-price.
But-I'm-trying-to-review-Old-Whiskey-River,not-bag-on-Jim-Beam.
So-in-conclusion-I've-discovered-that-Old-Whiskey-River,on-the-rocks-with-a-splash-of-Cherry-Coke-on-top-is-one-of-my-new-favorites!The-other-mixer-I-liked-alot-was-Virgil's-Real-Cola.Very-dry-aftertaste.It'so-
so-smooth-that-it's-deceptive-about-how-strong-it-really-is.
So,Whiskey-River-get's-a-high-rating-from-me.I-like-it-better-than-Russell's-Reserve-which-has-been-a-favorite.

That-said-Jefferson's-very-small-batch-is-still-my-number-one-Bourbon!!I-actually-prefer-the-very-small-batch-to-the-Jefferson's-President's-Reserve-very-very-small-batch.

I don't know what all the negative comments are about, I have been drinking Old Whiskey River for at least four years and find it very good. Now I am not a critic just and every day joe drinking Whiskey. I agree it is getting harder to buy it but so far I have been able to keep some on stock. I think it is smooth and no after taste for me.

Cheers,
Ron

This is a response to Marcus who implied in his posting on october 18, 2007 that the guitar pick that comes with the Old Whiskey River bottle is unusable. In fact, the picks are excellent quality and very durable. I have played guitar all my life but had not picked up my guitar much for a few years when I happened to stop into my favorite bar in Simi Valley, California and saw a bottle of Old Whiskey River on the shelf. I asked the bartender/owner what that was. He said it was a new type of bourbon that he was trying out. I aksed if I could have the guitar piok and he said I had to finish the bottle first. For the next few weeks I came in a couple of times a week and slowly worked my way through the bottle. When I got to the halfway point, he gave me the pick. I went home and picked up my old Martin D28 and started playing again after a layoff of several years. The pick was exactly right for me: hard, but not too hard, a perfect shape and easy to hold. In fact, the 3-D signature on one side gives me something to hold onto so I rarely drop it.

Anyway, I continued to play, began writing songs again and started performing again with a couple of buddies. Whenever I could I would buy another bottle of Old Whiskey River and hang onto the picks. I even bought some online. I have about 25 in my little pick box and have only broken two in the last five years! Unfortunately, the bourbon is hard to find now and I have only been able to order it from a couple of sources.

So, in brief, the picks ARE usable, and in fact are just about the best I have ever used. Thanks Willy!
