Bourbon Reviews
Old Charter | Rating 87
Make a baby boomer happy, drink Old Charter in a room that smells of rich mahogany. I decided to try a taste of Old Charter on a recent trip to see my parents.

The Boys of Bourbon is the definitive source for online bourbon reviews. The reviews are written in an irreverent style that mixes tasting notes, pop culture references, occasional profanity, and the tasting experience. In addition to reviewing bourbon, the site will begin featuring reviews of beer and other dark spirits.

| Nic | An attorney by day, and a connoisseur of fine whiskey by night…and sometimes at lunch as well. He is the founder of Pop. 1236 Apparel, Nic tries to enjoy all the little ever day things: a sip of whiskey of an evening, a glass of buttermilk, and listening to Doug Moreland. He sincerely believes that George Strait should change his name to the Country Music Jesus. Nic is also an up and coming music artist. With a sound that combines elements of George Strait, Ray Charles, and a young Pat Green the coming months promise to be exciting in his young career. |
| Eric | Eric dreams of oil and gas at night, but tires to spend his daylight hours picking the next whiskey that will touch his lips. He enjoys many different distilled liquids but a good bourbon can’t be beat. Cross Canadian Ragweed and Reckless Kelly songs stay in his mind and he loves quoting some of the best movies of our time, namely Lonesome Dove and Anchorman. Being the only member of the Bourbon Boys in Colorado, he loves taking his whiskey with him to the mountains to enjoy it at hight elevations. Socially, he guarantees a good time when your with him as long as you bring your “A” game and a “can do” attitude. |
| Jason | A recent addition to the world of physicians, Doc J was born a fisherman, but a whiskey drinker by the Grace of God. When not able to spend his time outwitting Largemouth Bass or Brown Trout, while under the influence of some brown goodness, he keeps himself entertained and pays the bills with sawing on bones. No worries, the doc only gets halfway between the cork and the bottle when he is not on call. |
| Matt | For Matt there are not too many things in this world that rival the taste of a good whiskey. Matt prefers whiskey on the rocks or with water or on very rare occasions (like the picture shows on the left) a little Coke, but only if its doubled up and I mean both the whiskey drink and your vision. I’m not a shot take and would advise that whiskey never be served in shot glasses. Whiskey is meant to be sipped and enjoyed slowly. My personal recommendations would be Booker’s, Jack Daniel’s Black Label, and Evan Williams Single Barrel Reserve. |
| Marc | Though accused of preferring “rotgut” by the other boys, this whiskey lover does have a nose for the finer things in life, just not the pocketbook. Finding a great value is almost as satisfying as a sweating glass of barrel-aged bourbon. Detouring through law school on this winding road of life, Marcus is preparing for the day when the boys finally open a saloon. With the prospect of practicing law just around the corner, check back often for this most recent opinions on that most American of libations. “There are two kinds of people, those who finish what they start and so on.” |
The comments people have left are coming back. We are in the process of converting them over from an old system to a new. In the mean time you can still comment and we would love for you to do exactly that. The new comments will be combined with the old.
Note to all Bourbon fanboys: it’s okay to indulge in other spirits from time to time. Especially when there are so many options to explore. I thought I would take a minute to introduce our first review of single malt Scotch. Same rules apply: have fun while dressing up your ice and let us know [...]

I know many of you readers agree with the Boys that good bourbon is best enjoyed with a good story. Most distilleries recognize this and present their whiskeys with a nostalgic label or grand tale. I’ve noticed the real story has to be in the taste. Buffalo Trace combines both of these in the right way. With a great [...]
“I’m not going to lie that smells like pure gasoline.” Those are the words that go through your head when you pull the wax off the top of a bottle of Booker’s. I guess I should have known to expect a stout bourbon when the guy working the cash register at the bottle store said I better buy some bottled water to go with it. Some background info is in order.
